Thanks Dody for your follow-up, it's an honor for me to have you comment on my humble blog ;)

As you said, there are a lot of things that money just can't buy. I told M. Hossam that my opinion about this issue is that a lot of developers, and people in general, in Egypt aren't ready yet to accept open events such as Silverkey's DemoDay, Google's Developer Day..etc. Events that encourage collaboration and sharing with no strings attached.

This even explains why there is not so many open-source applications out there done by Egyptians. They either, work with open-source projects and make money out of it, or create a project and charge for it. It's how to make money when possible.

But of course money IS important. But hardcore developers live to code and not for the money. I should spend 70% of my time on work that will be monetized, and the other 30% for the love of what I do as a developer...without expecting anything in return!


Finally, thanks for the correction, I will correct the CEO issue now

Some suspicion is understandable. As they say, there's no good deed goes unpunished. But they do sometimes disheartening.

This view can be derived if one thinks that everybody and everything must be motivated by money alone. That is off course not the case.

Our parents don't get paid to raise us. We don't get paid to play football in the middle of the night in the parking lot of Nasr city. Most people don't get paid to blog.

Imagine if Tim Berners-Lee charge royalty for every single website created on the web. He will be a bloody kazillionaire but we might not end up having a world wide web. But he does makes a lot of people happy.

And I think if your work and contribution can make people happy, I think that's more than enough return for anything.

Minor correction, I'm not the CEO of SilverKey Egypt The CEO is Taher, the dude that opened the Demo Day. I just happened to start SilverKey 5 years ago back in Chicago with my good friend Adam.

On the overall scheme of things, a couple of negative reactions doesn't have much influence.

Innovation means introducing something different/new to the current condition; that type of change will always generate resistance.
